Career for Nurses

The Nursing Registration boards are the statutory authorities for the registration of Nurses and midwives, to be allowed to work in Australia, Nurses qualifications are needed to be assessed by Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) or the Nurse Regulatory body by the State or Territory. The Nurses profession is in high demand in Australia with opportunities for permanent and temporary work available.

 

Nurses already Registered in any part of state can gain Mutual Recognition in the other state, the Nurses registered in New Zealand can gain mutual recognition under the Trans Tasman agreement in all states except WA and SA.

 

Overseas Nurses/Midwives

To apply for assessment to the Nurse regulatory body in the State or Territory applicants may be required to demonstrate competence and safe practice through satisfactory completion of an assessment program conducted by Nursing Colleges and Universities, on successful completion of the Assessment Program, the applicants can registered as Nurse in the relevant state and can also work on 457 visa (valid for 4 years) or apply for Permanent Residency.

 

English Language Competency:

The applicants are required to demonstrate English language competence through English test results or IELTS Academic test average band score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each of the components Occupational English Test (OET) for Nurses, Nurses and Midwives must have B pass or higher score in all four sections of the OET test.

Registered Nurse from European Union are eligible for Nurses/Midwives registration, if following conditions are true:

As of May 2005 - European Member States include: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

 

Nurse remunerations:

In Australia for year 2004, the Nursing profession reported starting pay rate in the public sector in 2004 between $34,000 and $38,500 for a registered Nurse and Senior Nurses and Nurse Managers can earn up to $100,000 per year in some states, these figures are based on Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) Nursing Labor Force Report 2002
